There’s been a long running tradition at Spell that every few months Spelly and I take the girls out for a special ‘thank you’ lunch to reconnect with each other and show our appreciation for all their hard work. This time, after a long and extremely hardworking few months we decided we all needed a little extra pampering.

So it was on a gorgeously warm and sunny Winter morning that we all piled into our cars and headed in convoy to Mullumbimby Day Spa ‘Kiva’, which we’d booked out for the whole morning.

What a magical fairy land it became! 15 girls all running around jumping from spa to sauna, to plunge pool and standing transfixed under palm trees in the hot outdoor shower… Australian organic skincare range Vanessa Megan had sent a collection of divine samples for us to try – I think I exfoliated my skin like 20 times!

The day rolled on in playful delirium – ending in cocktails and ocean strolls. We can’t thank all the girls enough, for their enduring hard work and for the way they treat all of our customers like family.

But the one thing I took from the day was that you don’t have to go to a day spa to relax and reconnect with yourself! I found the following DIY cooling eye mask on the Vanessa Megan blog and am going to try this at home… Enjoy!!

I absolutely love this eye mask. If I need to wake up quickly to start my day, as soon as I get up, I pop on this mask and it helps me get on the move faster than normal. It is fresh, soothing and wonderful for your precious eye area!

Cucumber eye mask
2 Teaspoons cucumber
1 teaspoon powdered milk / yoghurt ( I prefer using yoghurt)

Using a teaspoon, scoop out the middle part of your cucumber ( I find Lebanese cucumbers to have softer seeds than the traditional cucumber)
put pulp into a mortar and pestle and mix to a pulp, crushing the seeds.
Add yoghurt or milk powder to the pulp, stir well so they are completely combined.
Put into a small bowl and chill in the fridge for 15-20 minutes.
If the mixture is a bit thick, add half a teaspoon of distilled water to thin it out.

Apply this mix to the whole eye area including the lids.
Lay back, relax, do your morning meditation…leave on for 10 minutes or until dry.
Rinse with cool water and pat skin dry.
Voila, fresh, bright eyes and ready to start the day!
